You may be asking yourself…“I have a DOT Number, so why do I need an MC Number and what is it?”
The purpose of this application is for you to describe the type of motor carrier services you provide, submit your list of process agents, and prove that you have the correct insurance coverage. You can’t operate interstate until all these requirements are met.
We Make It Simple!
This number will be phased out soon, but for now, it’s still required for all “For Hire” interstate motor carriers. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires this to protect the public. It’s their job to make sure you have valid insurance on file at all times. If it gets cancelled, so is your Authority to operate. There really is nothing more to the number than that.
Even though you can obtain your DOT Number in less than a day, remember, you still can’t operate interstate as a “For Hire” carrier until all of the proper MC Authority paperwork has been filed and processed by the FMCSA.
American Licensing can get you on the road legally and quickly. Depending on how fast your insurance agent files the required proof of insurance, the process typically takes a minimum of 3 weeks but not usually more than 5. Don’t be misled by other licensing agents that claim you will have your authority in a day. True, you may have your MC # in a day, but it’s not valid until the application is finalized by the FMCSA.
American Licensing can take care of all this for you right away! We realize that every day counts when starting a new operation. Let our 33 years of experience work for you. Our priority is to save you time and money, but most importantly, we keep it simple!
